Masquerade in Watercolors

I’m offering my original painting of “Masquerade” for sale on Etsy.com for anyone who’s interested in a true traditional piece. Features the main characters Wisdom and Glory from the Wisdom Novels® series.
This was completed using Sketchbox monthly art supplies from July 2016.

Masquerade - from Sketch to Painting

This is a piece I've been working on using Sketchbox supplies for the month of July. I'm subscribed to the Premium monthly box, which you can check out here if interested in your own monthly art supplies: http://getsketchbox.com/

The characters featured are from the Wisdom Novels® series, Wisdom and his fiancée Glory. I'd had this "Masquerade" idea since last month, but am glad I waited because the watercolors this month are very nice. The brand of paints were Daniel Smith. I've never heard of them, but they are rich in color. May look into more.

Masquerade Sketch

Wisdom and Glory in “Masquerade”. I built another 3D model for Glory and used that as a reference. Now I have two models to use.
They don’t have any female versions to work with, so I’m manipulating a male’s face to look like a girl. Yeah, did I mention 123D Sculpt is kind of hard?
This could be a scene for a future writing project. I want the mask Wisdom is holding to represent the Dark side of himself. Glory’s mask will probably represent Light. Not that he turns Dark himself, but he ends up helping those with different magic that others see as a threat. So it’s almost like he has to play both sides in order to win.
This is only a sketch. I plan to use this for a traditional piece later. For now, I’ll just print it and transfer it to Bristol paper to outline in ink and clean up the edges. I love LineART, so I believe this will look nice in the end.
BTW, I have a new Sketchbox review coming up. I was planning to use some of the colors included in the box for this piece ;)

Royal Phoenix WIP

A creature concept I've been working on. This is the "Royal" Phoenix. Don't be fooled by it's appearance. This is more dragon than bird. The true Phoenix is believed to rise from its own ashes. This one can only rise once from the ash. It has two openings on the beak. One is the actual nostril. The other is for steam to escape due to its body temperature. The coloration on this one means it's a male that is at the peak of its life. It's looking for a mate. It's completely blind and relies on body heat to locate either each other or prey. In size comparison to humans, it would probably stand up to a person's waistline.

Adding Wisdom Speed Painting

Adding Wisdom

Starting painting Wisdom in the top panel. Because the image is so small, I didn't bother with the Line art. I'm really liking how it's turning out so far.

Concept laid out in the form of a comic. Work in progress. The idea is to find out who the older Healer is the Wisdom Novels® series.

2) Calli - calligraphy black ink (slightly used)
3) Simply Simmons #4 paint brush (slightly used)

Exploring No'va - Piano Music

A piece I was playing around with. Maybe related to book four "No'va" so I'm going to title it "Exploring No'va". Sounds like something after the companions are settled into their new world and are shown its beauty with the help of Healers.

Only the Beginning - Piano

Inspired by the cover art for No'va - Book IV in the Wisdom Novels® series

Water Brushes Review

I decided to order a pack of these water brushes and post a quick review. I haven't tried them yet. The tips feel like they're plastic versus having an actual fiber/hair tip. So I'm wondering how it will affect the flower of paint. I will definitely try them out, as I'm seen a few other artists using them. And we'll go from there.

Music was created by Yours Truly ;) It's called Last Dance. Created using Garage Band - strings and piano.

Faerie Speed Drawing

Faerie LineART I'm currently working on for either a traditional copic marker coloring or maybe it'll be something for my cousin's upcoming birthday. Not sure yet.

April Sketchbox Review

This is my simple review on the unveiling of Sketchbox for the month of April. This month they celebrate INK. So everything’s that’s included can be used to ink in a drawing, or calligraphy, LineART, you name it.

Now I have an ink-ling that there’s going to be another video with a finished product coming up in the near future ;)

Wisdom Novels® on Patreon

I started writing "Wisdom" back in 2000. Eight revisions later, I realized I had a trilogy going for me. By 2015, I had completed the third novel, published everything, and was steadily working on a second trilogy. At the time, Wisdom Novels® was becoming a standard name to call the series. So after some thought about getting it trademarked, I submitted a request to have it done and waited about a year before it was officially approved.

So welcome to Wisdom Novels® Patreon!

My main objective is to just finish the series. I have seven books in mind. The first six will comprise of two trilogies, while the seventh is a stand-alone. During the course of writing, I'll be continuously sketching, painting, sculpting and creating music. All of which you guys will get to see as I share spoilers and much, much more!

Hope you enjoy!

Copiic Markers Character Test

For my first test drawing, I use a sketch already drawn out from a previous work. These markers are double sided, but I feel what sells them is the flexible brush tip. I don't even see the need to have a regular marker tip unless you want a wider range of color. But, to me, the marker side feels like I have to scrub the tip into the paper for it to work.

It's an alcohol-based marker, and they come from Japan. They are a nice quality marker for professional artists. I may look into more colors later on. For right now, though, I'll stick with what I have just because they're expensive (about $7.99 per marker).

LIVEstream Face study

Watch live streaming video from wisdomnovels at livestream.com

Face Color Test

After watching a youtube artist demonstrating his coloring methods, which you can watch here:

I decided to try my own version without looking at any references.

I started with the LineART, because I’ve been having trouble getting smooth lines in Photoshop. When it came to painting the face, I wanted to try the technique seen by the artist, but it wasn’t working for me. I continued to add and delete from the face, pushing and pulling lines, until he started look more semi-realistic rather than anime.

Still working with him, but so far I’m pleased with how he’s turned out. This was meant to be the main character from the Wisdom Novels® series, Ketih Larson (aka Master Wisdom).

So here's my little face study: Program used - Photoshop.

So for this month’s Sketchbox, the theme is Line Art. So to celebrate the feel of this, they include Ironlak® Permanent Marker 0.4mm, a set of Ironlak® Fineliners in color, and a COPIC wide-tip marker.

I haven’t used them yet, but plan to ;)   You can subscribe here: https://getsketchbox.com/

Shafari ~ Character Doll

Finally finished him, and doesn't he go well in the snow! Character from book four "No'va" - Shafari. I wanted his clothing fairly simple, though I might add some embroidery later on. I picked up this really pretty multi-color thread that just went so well with the crimson robe.

This is his younger version, as book four reveals more of his past and the start of his path that leads him to use curses more so than magic.

Churches from Victoria, VA - Pen/Ink

Eastern Clan - Pen/Ink

So based off of what I've learned drawing the churches in pen and marker, I decided to try my hand at the Eastern Clan as written in the novel. I don't go into great lengths of description, but this is what it could look like.

I used an older illustration I did of it a while back and just expended on it. It had a lot of foliage and I wanted to show more angles. So far, this is what I have. The perspective's a little off, but it'll do for now.

Getting ready to shade!
