I’m still planning out how to decorate my table and what to bring, but here’s a list:
1) Tablecloth
2) Models of fantasy figurines
3) Custom cut sign with original artwork (I will have to make this)
3) Bookmarks
4) Artwork (I think I would like to actually do some artwork while I’m there, usually draws a crowd ;)
5) Art Prints (these will be small, probably 4×6 glossy, photo prints or characters/creatures/cover art)
6) Basket, pen and paper for free giveaways
There may be others i might want instead. I’m debating whether the artwork should be traditional or digital if I do it live. I’ve been into digital lately. Traditional would be easier to see. I have a couple of pieces in mind I’d like to start, which would involve inking and watercolor on a large watercolor board. But I doubt I’d even get to that part if I started from scratch at the store. Stuff like that takes weeks to complete.

Blog Hop

I’d like to thank Trish Terrell for nominating me for this month’s blog hop. She is a one-of-a-kind suspense/thriller novelist who has several series out, and I’m sure more to come. Please be sure to visit her site if you haven’t already. It’s worth the risk ;)   http://www.pmterrell.blogspot.com
As for myself, I’ve been a Medevial Fantasy storyteller for a long time. I have two novels that are out, and a third in the works. The series, Wisdom Novels, will consist of six books when complete (hopefully a seventh, dealing with the next generation). You follow the footsteps of a young man as he discovers his connection to a race of long-forgotten Healers in order to unite the people of the land against a growing Darkness caused by the first Black Unicorn.
So for those interested in how all this pans out, here’s a little rundown.
Book One “Wisdom” is an introduction to the little-known world of No’va. You watch as the main character develops from carefree, happy childhood, to a powerful adult that’s been gifted the horn of the sister unicorn in order to protect him against the coming Darkness. Along the way, you’ll meet colorful characters that help drive the plot along: Corrigan, a half-breed Black Wing struggling between his two halves, a runaway girl trying to free herself from a controlling step-mother, a Healer striving to exterminate the land of humans, an illusionist trying to obtain power, and more!

Interviewing an Author

I was recently contacted by Michelle Mar to conduct an interview concerning my experiences in the publishing industry. Granted, I felt there was a whole lot more I could have said, I think the main topics were covered.
You can find the interview here at Michelle Mar’s BlogIn Which I talk with Bonnie Watson
I did once start putting a small website concerning the different types of publishing options, which you can find here: Foreseer Productions   Originally, I was going to make this the name of my self-publishing, but guess it got swept away in so many other projects.

Story Concept: The Keeper

The Keeper – Story Concept

TITLE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS
TYPES OF KEEPRS

1) High Keeper
2) Keeper
3) Guardian

A KEEPER’S TASK
1) High Keeper – oversees all others, enforces the laws to control how much power a keeper is given
2) the Keeper – keepers are in charge of certain portions of the land. Depending on how much territory they gain can give them access to certain abilities and power, although they are limited by laws set forth by the High Keeper on what to do with that power since it’s supposed to go toward what they’re keeping.
3) Guardian – there are always multiple guardians, and they are always watching. They are tasked with enforcing the laws and punishing those who break it. Also brings justice to those who have been wronged; however, they never interfere until a wrong has been committed.

SUMMARY IS STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS
This is what I have so far:

A widowed father with two children cannot afford to care for his crippled son. He’s heard stories of “Keepers” that dwell in the nearby forest. Keepers are said to keep their territory well organized where no sickness ever festers. So the father leaves his son where he believes a Keeper is living, never knowing what becomes of his son.

It is a High Keeper who brings the boy under her care. He’s given a staff with healing abilities. As long as he wields the staff, he’s able to live like a normal person. He’s trained to be one of the Keepers, and eventually returns to claim a territory near his hometown. The other Keepers are quite jealous of this “gift”. As a young man, he’s able to use the healing powers of the staff to influence the land around him.

But there are rules to follow. A Keeper is not allowed to interfere with the people living outside their territories, or those who wander within. That changes, of course, when the young man recognizes his sister and tries to help her when she’s attacked by traveling marauders.

****

Still working on the storyline. Seem like it could be something nice outside what I’ve been writing with the novels.

Counting Down

What author wouldn’t be excited to discover he/she only had a few more chapters until completion? There’s about eleven more chapters to write before book three “Healer” draft is done. Then comes the editing.  The fun part will be just enjoying the story through and fixing up certain areas that need addressing.

I already know I need to add a small section notating where the farmers come into do business with town. What good is having one-of-a-kind items for sale when the prince had already told the farmers they could sell their goods as well? Then never write it? Needs to be added. Just one small section would fix that.

Sample Chapter from Book Three “Healer”

Jenario leaned against his balcony wall, head slightly bowed. With eyes closed, he allowed the thoughts of the horn to mull over events for him, as he himself was too weary to bother. Nathaniel was gone, a relief to both horn and mage. Not only did it cut back on the horn’s ongoing claims of uselessness, but focused on the positive approach of Abraham’s training.

A shift in though signaled the horn’s eagerness to speak. When at last Jenario raised his head, eyes opened to a flushed crimson burning around the irises’ rims. Someone was coming.

The horn controlled the mage like a marionette, pulling his mental strings to lift an arm at the faintest movement within the darkness. Whether day or night, it was all the same. A constant surge of lightning lit up the surrounding forest and outlined the form of an approaching raven.

It alighted upon the mage’s outstretched arm with a loud caw, then brushed its beak affectionately over the soft fabric. The mage smiled and ran a finger down the soft tuft of feathering over the breast.

“You’ve done well,” the horn spoke softly. “Now that I know our Healer friend is bound to his clan, he will surely remain until that time in which I see fit to collect him.”

Jenario lifted his arm higher, and the raven took to the sky.

Return to your kind! Tell them their heir has failed!”

The raven’s wild cackles eventually drowned within the clap of thunder. Its dark form easily matched that of its surroundings, and was swallowed without a trace into the forest.

“Their lust for vengeance against humans will only feed my storm. With the human population extinguished, there will be nothing to hinder my plans.” He cast his eyes up toward the tower room where he knew the Black Wing was still within his control. There came a chuckle. “Ah, the rarity of ripening fruit in a barren wasteland – the time of harvest grows nearer.”

Potential Cover?

So what do ya think? Too artsy looking? Maybe I should start breaking away from the semi-realistic look. There are just too many covers out there with serious expressions and sexy stock photos for faces. I mean, serious now. Do some REAL art!!!

Then again, I know people can actually paint THAT good.... I'm not complaining.

Keeper of Secrets

It's been a while since I've done some art. I think I want to start playing around with some traditional now. Digital is fun, but I'd like to try something new.

This is Shy from the Wisdom Novels series. Although it is a scene from book two, he wouldn't necessarily have green fire in his hand. Wonder what this would look like as a book cover for the next novel in the series?

Disappointing News

I know there are a few of you waiting for the new book to arrive and for the author to make her appearance at Book ‘Em this February. Unfortunately, due to some untimely events, I’ve had to pull out. Yes, I know. I’m disappointed as well. I was really looking forward to seeing everyone and checking out some of the speakers. But I guess these things happen.

In the meantime, I’m only twelve chapters away from completing book three “Healer.” I’m thinking of revamping the website, and I’ve started the design portion of the cover art, but not the artwork itself. It will probably have something to do with the Dark Unicorn, as I’ve kept that image up on two of the covers already. So as soon as I get some updates on the artwork, I’ll be sure to post it here.
